We arrive at the city of Nazca and the first hotel entering town is the Nazca Lines hotel. We walk a small path surrounded by lush vegetation and arrive at the big wooden, colonial doors which are open and which leads you to the reception of the hotel. These beautiful doors are the first thing you notice. The receptionist is very friendly and the reception has a small lobby with colonial furniture made of dark colored wood. You immediately notice some pictures of the Nazca Lines and Maria Reiche. We start looking the hotel entering at the patio. Patios are very common in Spanish colonial architecture and this hotel has been a Spanish mansion before during the colonization period. This is reflected in the arches covered with the famous azulejos ceramic. All public spaces and rooms are very spacious as was common in Spanish architecture. The hotel has at his patio a small terrace near the swimming pool. They have a small pool for children and a big one for the adults.
At the patio you have another terrace which is part of the hotel restaurant which is inside in its main building. It is very charming and really welcomes you to have breakfast and a drink while enjoying some shadow or sun surrounded by beautiful flowers. The hotel has a tennis court to practice some sports. At the moment they are arranging this court into something special. Near this tennis court is the planetarium of the hotel where each night between 6 and 10 p.m. guests can observe stars and get information also about the Nazca Lines in 3 languages (Spanish, English and French).
We then arrive at the first hotel rooms. They recently have amplified the hotel with new rooms. All rooms are spacious, clean with air conditioning, safe and other comfort. Guests can have a wake-up call which is automatically via computer and very punctual. All bathrooms have a bath and a shower and they are decorated with nice ceramics. They have 2 suites which are really spacious with 2 bedrooms; one for parents and one for children or other guests, a living room and the room for parents has a Jacuzzi which is filled for you and decorated with fresh flowers, soaps, bubbles and a bottle of champagne. The hotel furthermore offers some computers to write to home your experiences. The hotel also has a small terrace at the third floor which gives you an amazing view of Nazca, the patio with its swimming pool and the mountains.
The hotel gives you a very historical feeling and is actually based on a theme which is Maria Reiche. She dedicated almost her entire life to the measurement and preservation of the Nazca Lines. Since the hotel was owned by the state before it got in private hands, they gave her a room to live in. She spent her last 25 years living in this hotel. You therefore find a lot of pictures of the Nazca Lines and of Maria Reiche all over the hotel. Her room is now a small museum with her degrees on the wall, pictures, a photo book and the bathroom and beds are still the same as when she lived here. You can even sleep in her room if you want to and feel her spirit. A great hotel with very friendly and helpful staff, some of which even knew Maria Reiche personally and are very happy to tell you about her as a person. It really is an historic hotel in a central place. |
